Rewind

On days like today--sunny and cool--I think back to the days of playing outside all day long, only coming inside to use the bathroom, and ending the night with dirt filled nails and messy hair. Being one of the only girls in the neighborhood and growing up with three older brothers, I balanced my time between playing with barbies and playing in the mud. What I would give to go back to those days.

I played with my next door neighbor the week he moved in. Ever since, we probably played together every single day until my family built a new house (when I was 17) and we moved. We would have sleepovers, play kickball, swim in my pool, we did everything together. To this day, I talk to him weekly. He is one of my best friends and we know each other in and out. It was one of those friendships that I thought would fade once I went to college. It didn't. When he went to college two years later. It didn't. And I believe it never will. Again, I am reminded that friends will come and go, but there are always those few special friends who will never leave your side.
